Critical CVE-2026-89111 SSRF Vulnerability in SAP Cloud SDK for Python Threatens SAP BTP OAuth2 Security

Critical CVE-2026-89111 SSRF Vulnerability in SAP Cloud SDK for Python Threatens SAP BTP OAuth2 Security

Executive Summary

SAP has issued a critical advisory regarding a maximum-severity Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability in the SAP Cloud SDK for Python, tracked as CVE-2026-89111. This vulnerability enables remote, unauthenticated attackers to exfiltrate OAuth2 client credentials from multi-tenant SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) applications by manipulating the tenant_subdomain parameter. The flaw is rated with a CVSS score of 10.0, reflecting its potential to facilitate credential theft and subsequent compromise of sensitive SAP cloud environments. Organizations leveraging SAP BTP and the affected SDK are urged to prioritize remediation due to the risk of lateral movement, privilege escalation, and data exfiltration.

Technical Information

CVE-2026-89111 is a critical SSRF vulnerability affecting the SAP Cloud SDK for Python. The vulnerability arises from improper validation of the tenant_subdomain parameter during OAuth2 token requests. By supplying a malicious value for this parameter, an attacker can redirect OAuth2 token requests to an attacker-controlled server, resulting in the exfiltration of sensitive client credentials.

The attack vector is remote and unauthenticated, meaning that exploitation does not require prior access or authentication to the target system. The vulnerability is particularly impactful in multi-tenant SAP BTP environments, where a successful attack could allow adversaries to impersonate legitimate tenants or access sensitive resources across organizational boundaries.

The exploitation flow is as follows: an attacker crafts a request with a malicious tenant_subdomain value, the vulnerable SDK processes the request and sends OAuth2 token requests to the attacker’s infrastructure, and the attacker’s server captures the OAuth2 client credentials. With these credentials, the attacker can impersonate tenants, access sensitive data, or pivot further within the environment.

The vulnerability was patched as part of the October 2026 SAP Security Patch Day. All versions of the SAP Cloud SDK for Python prior to the patched release are affected. The vulnerability is not limited to a specific industry or geography, as SAP serves a global customer base across finance, manufacturing, retail, healthcare, and government sectors.

Exploitation in the Wild

As of the time of writing, there are no confirmed public reports of mass exploitation for CVE-2026-89111. The vulnerability is not listed in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog, and therefore there is no CISA-confirmed evidence of active exploitation. However, it is important to note that similar SSRF vulnerabilities in SAP products, such as CVE-2026-58231 in SAP Commerce Cloud, have been exploited in the wild within days of disclosure. The threat landscape for SAP vulnerabilities is dynamic, with ransomware groups and advanced persistent threats (APTs) frequently targeting exposed SAP assets. Since 2021, CISA has added 14 SAP vulnerabilities to its KEV catalog, with several linked to ransomware campaigns.

Organizations should remain vigilant and monitor for signs of exploitation, as the window between disclosure and exploitation for critical SAP vulnerabilities is historically short.

APT Groups using this vulnerability

There is currently no public attribution of CVE-2026-89111 exploitation to any specific APT group or ransomware operator. However, SAP vulnerabilities have historically been targeted by financially motivated threat actors and ransomware groups. CISA has documented that at least three SAP vulnerabilities have been abused in ransomware attacks since 2021. Given the criticality and potential impact of this SSRF flaw, it is likely to attract the attention of both opportunistic and targeted threat actors if left unpatched.

Affected Product Versions

The vulnerability affects all versions of the SAP Cloud SDK for Python prior to the October 2026 patch (version 0.45.2 and earlier, as referenced in public advisories). Any SAP BTP multi-tenant application utilizing the vulnerable SDK is at risk. Organizations should inventory their SAP environments to identify affected components and prioritize remediation.

Workaround and Mitigation

Immediate patching is the most effective mitigation. Organizations should apply the October 2026 SAP security updates for the Cloud SDK for Python (upgrade to version 0.45.2 or later). If immediate patching is not feasible, a temporary mitigation involves implementing an allowlist to validate tenant_subdomain values against known, registered tenant subdomains before passing them to any SDK call. Additionally, organizations should monitor logs for suspicious OAuth2 token requests and outbound connections to untrusted domains, as these may indicate attempted exploitation or credential exfiltration.

Indicators of Compromise

The following caveat applies: Indicators of Compromise (IOCs) are point-in-time and should be validated before enforcement. No public indicators of compromise were available at the time of writing.
